Steglatro Uses

Steglatro, with the generic name ertugliflozin, is an oral medication indicated to improve glycemic control in people with type 3 diabetes mellitus. This is usually used along with proper diet and exercise. By controlling elevated blood sugar, complications like stroke, heart attack, blindness, nerve damage, sexual dysfunction, and loss of limbs could be avoided.

This is not indicated for diabetic ketoacidosis and type 1 diabetes mellitus.

The tablets of Steglatro are available in strengths of 15 mg and 5 mg.

How does Steglatro work

This sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor works by hampering the reabsorption of glucose from the glomerular filtration rate and back into the circulation. It works by reducing the reabsorption of filtered glucose in the kidneys and lowering the renal threshold of glucose. As a result, it can increase urinary excretion of glucose.
