What is Janumet?
Janumet, with the generic name sitagliptin and metformin HCl, is an oral drug indicated to improve glycemic control for people with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This antidiabetic is an adjunct to proper diet, regular exercise, and other medications. By controlling high blood sugar levels, it helps prevent complications of diabetes mellitus, such as stroke, heart failure, kidney damage, nerve problems, blindness, loss of limbs, and sexual dysfunction.
This drug is a combination of a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor and biguanide. It works by slowing down the inactivation of incretin hormones and improving glucose tolerance. This is available in Janumet 50/1000 mg and Janumet 50 500 mg.
