Januvia (sitagliptin) Indications

Januvia, generic name sitagliptin, is prescribed to help lower blood sugar levels of adults who have type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This is taken along with proper diet and regular exercise.

By taking Januvia, complications of T2DM, such as kidney disease, eye impairment, nerve damage, cardiovascular diseases, and sexual dysfunction, may be prevented.

This prescription medication is not for type 1 diabetes and diabetic ketoacidosis.

Januvia is classified as a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor. It works by increasing the production of insulin. It also lowers the secretion of glucagon, which consequently decreases hepatic glucose production.

Januvia (sitagliptin) Uses and Dosage

Read the prescription guide before using Januvia.

Januvia is a once daily oral medication. Follow the dosage prescribed by your doctor and avoid changing your dose without seeking proper medical advice.

Swallow the Januvia tablet whole with a glass of water. The tablet must not be cut, chewed, or crushed. This medication can be taken with or without food.

You may take this tablet in the morning or in the evening, based on your preference. For best results, take it at the same time every day.

Will Januvia make you gain weight?
