What is Jardiance?

Jardiance, with the generic name empagliflozin, is an oral prescription drug indicated to improve glycemic control along with proper diet and exercise on patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is also used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death among adults with cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes mellitus.

This sodium-glucose co-transporter 2(SGLT2) inhibitor works by reducing the renal reabsorption of filtered glucose and lowering the renal threshold for glucose. It then increases urinary glucose excretion. This drug is available in Jardiance 25 mg and Jardiance 10 mg.
