What is Galvus used for? 

Galvus, with the generic name vildagliptin, is an oral medication indicated to decrease blood sugar levels or improve glycemic control among people with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This is usually prescribed along with other antidiabetic agents and proper diet and exercise. By controlling the blood sugar, complications like heart attack, stroke, nerve problems, blindness, loss of limbs, and kidney damage.

How does Galvus work? 

This dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor works by selectively inhibiting the enzyme that rapidly shortens and inactivates glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic peptide (GIP) upon their release from the intestinal cells. By inhibiting DPP-4, the half-life of GLP-1 and GIP are prolonged. Thus, increasing the levels of active circulating incretin hormones. Through its action, Galvus could reduce fasting glucose, postprandial glucose, and hba1c. 

How to use Galvus
