Ampyra, generic name dalfampridine, is an oral prescription medication given to improve walking in adults with multiple sclerosis (MS). This improvement can be demonstrated by an increase in walking speed.

Ampyra is classified as a potassium channel blocker. The exact mechanism of action is unknown, yet it potentially increases the conduction action in demyelinated axons in the muscles by inhibiting potassium channels.

Always take Ampyra exactly as prescribed. Ampyra is taken by mouth with a glass of water two times daily with or without food. Do not split, dissolve, crush, or chew the extended-release tablets. Avoid taking more than two pills in 24 hours and do not take two tablets at one time.
