Indication : Sofracort is an antibiotic used to treat external ear infections and other inflammatory conditions for the ear, and inflammation associated with infection in the front portion of the eye. Eye conditions treated by Sofracort include blepharitis, allergic, infections, and rosacea conjunctivitis, rosacea keratitis, scleritis, episcleritis, and iridocycitis. Sofracort contains two antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory. The antibiotics help kill bacteria that may cause certain eye and ear infections. The anti-inflammatory reduces the swelling and inflammation.

Storage : Store Sofracort at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and light. Do not store in the bathroom

Precaution : Tell your doctor about any allergies or medical conditions that you have before taking this medicine. Tell your doctor if you are taking any prescription or non-prescription drugs before taking Sofracort. Some drugs can interact and cause unwanted side effects. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant before taking this medication and discuss the risks of using Sofracort while pregnant. Tell your doctor if you are breast feeding a baby before taking Sofracort. Some medications can pass through breast milk and harm a nursing baby.

Warnings : Extended ocular use of this medication can increase eye pressure for some people. If you are taking this medication for an extended period of time, have your eye pressure regularly checked. People with conditions that cause thinning of the cornea may experience perforation of the cornea brought on by skin-applied steroids like this medication. Cataracts have also occurred in patients who have been treated long-term with Sofracort and other skin applied steroids

Patient Family Information  : Follow your doctors dosing instructions when using this medication. The usual dose for ear infections is 2 or 3 drops instilled in the ear canal three or four times daily. Tilt your head to one side and let the drops fall into the ear canal. Do not touch your ear with the ear dropper. If you are using this medication for the eye, instill 1 or 2 drops every few hours. This dose is used for around 2 or 3 days. Then the dose is reduced to 1 or 2 drops three or four times daily. To use the eye drops, pull your lower eyelid down with your fingers to create a pouch between your eye and your lower eyelid. Insert one drop and close your eye, placing your finger on your tear duct to stop the medicine from traveling to your nasal canals. Wait several minutes and repeat so that you have used two drops in the infected eye. If your doctor has recommended that you use a different dose, follow his or her dosing instructions. Use this medicine on a regular schedule for the full amount of time prescribed by your doctor. Never take two doses at once. Do not dispose of this medication down the sink or toilet or in household garbage. Ask your pharmacist about how to dispose of this medication.

Contraindication : Sofracort should not be used in the ear if you have a viral or fungal infection, if you have untreated infections with thick excretions, if you have a perforated eardrum, or if you have an allergy to this medication. Do not use Sofracort in the eye if you have herpes simplex and other viral diseases of the cornea, if you have tuberculosis and fungal diseases of the eye, trachoma, or acute purulent, or if you have an allergy to any of the ingredients in this medication.
