( Top Brand Option )
What is Zetia?
Zetia, with the generic name ezetimibe, is an oral medication indicated to reduce elevated levels of total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, apolipoprotein B, and non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol in patients with primary hyperlipidemia, mixed hyperlipidemia, and homozygous sitosterolemia (phytosterolemia. This treatment is an adjunct to diet and regular exercise.
This lipid-lowering agent does not inhibit cholesterol synthesis in the liver or increase excretion of bile acid, but rather, it inhibits cholesterol absorption by the small intestine. It leads to a decrease in the delivery of intestinal cholesterol in the liver. Besides reducing hepatic cholesterol levels, it also increases clearance of cholesterol from the blood. This is available in Zetia 10 mg tablet form.
