What is Movantik used for?

Movantik, with the generic name Naloxegol, is an oral medication used to treat opioid-induced constipation or OIC. This is mostly prescribed to adult patients with chronic non-cancer pain. It is classified as an opioid antagonist.

This is available on Movantik 25 mg and 12.5 mg tablets.

How does Movantik work?

This antagonist of opioids primarily binds at the mu-opioid receptor. It acts as a peripherally-acting mu-receptor antagonist in tissues, including in the gastrointestinal tract. This action decreases the constipating effects of opioids.
