Nexium (Esomeprazole) is also used to heal the esophagus when it is damaged by stomach acid. In some cases, Nexium (Esomeprazole) can be used to prevent gastric ulcers caused by infection with either nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or helicobacter pylori.
