Anoro Ellipta (umeclidinium and vilanterol) Indications

Anoro Ellipta, generic name umeclidinium and vilanterol, is an oral inhalation medication used as a long-term treatment for patients diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including emphysema, chronic bronchitis, or both. It helps prevent or control breathing symptoms while reducing the occurrence of flare-ups.

Anoro Ellipta is not indicated for asthma. It is also not a rescue inhaler and should not be used to relieve sudden symptoms of COPD.

Anoro Ellipta inhaler is a combination of an anticholinergic and a long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist (LABA). It relaxes the bronchial smooth muscle providing bronchodilation and inhibits the release of mediators that produce immediate hypersensitivity reactions.

Anoro Ellipta (umeclidinium and vilanterol) Uses and Dosage

You must read the medication leaflet before using the Anoro Ellipta inhaler. Always use this medication exactly as instructed.

Anoro Ellipta is typically administered once daily. Use it at the same time each day. Do not use it more than once a day unless instructed by the doctor.

How to use Anoro Ellipta:

  1. Slide the cover down until the mouthpiece shows and you hear a click. Do not open and close the cover without inhaling the medication or else the dose is lost. The counter will keep track of doses and count down by one each time you open, inhale, and close the device.
  2. Hold the inhaler away from you and breathe out fully through your mouth.
  3. Place the mouthpiece between your lips and close your lips tightly around it.
  4. Breathe in deeply and steadily. Make sure your fingers are not blocking the air vent.
  5. Remove the prescription inhaler from your mouth and hold your breath for 3-4 seconds.
  6. Breathe out gently and slowly.
  7. Close the inhaler by sliding the cover up and over the mouthpiece.
