What is Incruse Ellipta?

Incruse Ellipta, with the generic name umeclidinium, is an oral inhalation indicated as a maintenance treatment for airflow obstruction among patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including chronic bronchitis and emphysema. It also controls and prevents symptoms such as wheezing and shortness of breath.

This inhalation powder is a long-acting antimuscarinic agent. It works by inhibiting the m3 receptor at the smooth muscle, which results in bronchodilation. Relaxation of smooth muscles in the airway will open it up and allow better breathing. This medication is available in Incruse Ellipta 62.5 mcg.

Incruse Ellipta – How to use

To start, read the medication information leaflet that comes with this inhaler. Do not use this inhalation if you have not fully understood all information and instructions in the guide. If you need further medical advice or have additional queries, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Use Incruse Ellipta regularly and with a dosing schedule to achieve full benefits. Follow the exact directions given by your physician. Do not alter your Incruse Ellipta dosing, or take it more often than prescribed to avoid worsening conditions.

If you are prescribed other inhalers at the same time, wait for at least one minute before you administer other oral inhalations. This would allow proper drug absorption.

Step by step guide in using Incruse Ellipta:

  1. Open the inhaler pack by peeling the lid of the tray. Properly dispose of the desiccant that comes with this medication.
  2. Check the counter. It should read  “30”. Each time you use the inhalation, the number will decrease by 1.
  3. Open the inhalation by sliding the cover down until you see the mouthpiece. You will hear a click – it means that the inhalation is ready to use. Do not shake the device.
  4. Hold your inhaler away and exhale fully.
  5. Put the inhaler in your mouth and seal your lips around the mouthpiece. Make sure that the air vent is not being blocked by your fingers.
  6. Take a long, steady, and deep inhalation through your mouth. Then, remove the inhaler from your mouth. Hold your breath for not less than 4 seconds.
  7. Exhale slowly and gently. You may taste or feel the powder from the medication.
  8. Clean the inhaler with dry tissue. Close the device by sliding the cover upwards.
