What is Alustra/Hydroquinone used for?

Alustra is used to temporarily lighten skin. Alustra decreases the amount of dark pigment being created in the skin. This medication is used to lighten darkened areas of the skin and reduce things like freckles, age spots, and other blemishes or imperfections (chloasma, melasma).

If you have any allergies to any of the ingredients listed on the label do not take this medication.

What precautions should I follow when taking Alustra/Hydroquinone?

Keep this medication away from your mouth or eyes. Do not use this medication on sunburned or otherwise irritated skin. Using this medication may increase your sensitivity to certain weather conditions. You may need to use a moisturizing cream with Alustra. Avoid exposure to sunlight and artificial sunlight.

What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Alustra/Hydroquinone?

This drug may cause temporary staining of your skin. Rinse your skin with soap and water to remove the stains.

What are the side effects of Alustra/Hydroquinone?

Severe: Severe allergic reaction, serious burning/stinging sensation of your skin.

Common: Mild burning, itching, redness, or other mild irritations.

Other: None.

How should I take Alustra/Hydroquinone?

Take Alustra as prescribed to you by your health care professional, or as directed to on the label. Wash your hands before and after using this medication (unless your treatment includes your hands). Do not use Alustra on your lips. If this medication does get on your lips, or in your nose or mouth, rinse with water.
