How should I take Proventil HFA Inhaler/Albuterol Sulfate?

If this is the first time you are using the inhaler, shake the inhaler device and spray the inhaler 4 times into the air and away from your face to test the inhaler. Make sure you do this if you have not used it for 2 weeks or longer, or if the inhaler was dropped. Shake the inhaler canister before each spray. Take the cap off the mouthpiece of the inhaler and fully exhale. With your lips closed around the mouthpiece of the inhaler canister, slowly breathe in while pushing down on the top of the inhaler canister and hold your breath for 10 seconds. Slowly exhale. Wait at least 1 minute before inhaling the second time, if more than one inhalation was prescribed. Shake the inhaler again before inhalation. Put the cap back on the mouthpiece of the inhaler canister and keep it clean and dry. Clean the inhaler once a week. When cleaning the inhaler, place the mouthpiece under warm running water for 30 seconds and shake out the excess water. Let all the parts dry completely before putting it all back together.
