What is Lopid/Gemfibrozil used for?

Lopid is a prescription medication that is used to lower cholesterol levels in the blood and is used to reduce the risk of stroke, heart attack and other cardiovascular conditions as well as treat high levels of cholesterol in patients suffering from pancreatitis.

If you are allergic to any of this medication's ingredients, do not take Lopid. Taking Lopid is not recommended for those who are taking repaglinide, or those who have gallbladder disease, liver disease, or severe kidney disease.

What precautions should I follow when taking Lopid/Gemfibrozil?

Before taking Lopid, tell your doctor if you have any drug allergies and if you are taking any other prescription medications, nonprescription medications, herbal supplements or dietary supplements. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning to become pregnant, talk to your doctor before using Lopid.

What are the side effects of Lopid/Gemfibrozil?

Severe side effects include: sharp pain in your upper stomach (especially after eating); jaundice (yellowing of your skin or eyes); blurred vision, eye pain, or seeing halos around lights; or pain or burning when you urinate.
