What is Combipatch?

Combipatch, with the generic name estradiol-norethindrone acetate, is a transdermal system indicated to treat moderate to severe vasomotor symptoms associated with menopause. It is also used for the symptomatic relief of vulvar and vaginal atrophy linked with menopause. It also treats hypoestrogenism because of hypogonadism, castration, and primary ovarian failure.

This is available in CombiPatch 0.05/0.14 mg and 0.05/0.25 mg dosage forms.

How does Combipatch work?

This drug is a combination of estrogen and progestin-HRT. Primarily, estrogen is responsible for the development and maintenance of the female reproductive system and secondary sexual characteristics. It also modulates the pituitary secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and gonadotropins through a negative feedback mechanism. Thus, the elevated levels of these hormones will reduce in postmenopausal women.

How to use Combipatch

To begin, read the medication information sheet included with this medicine. Never use this type of medication if you have not fully understood the instructions and drug information in the guide provided. If you need more medical advice regarding Combipatch or have further inquiries on how this patch is used, you may ask your doctor or pharmacist.

This patch should be applied to the lower abdomen area. Clean & dry the area where the patch will be administered. Note that your patch should be applied in different areas of the lower abdomen for at least one week. To use, get your patch from the Combipatch storage and peel off the backing of the patch. Press it into the intended area firmly for at least ten seconds to ensure that it will stay in place. Do not apply the prescription patch on the breast, areas of the skin where it could be easily removed, like the waistline, and areas that are oily, broken, or irritated. Also, do not expose the patch on the sun for long periods.

Remember to use this drug precisely as prescribed. Make a dosing schedule to avoid forgetting to apply your patch. Do not alter your Combipatch dosage as it is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Do not alter your dosing or wear two patches at the same time to avoid worsening conditions.
